Autumnwatch presenter Chris Packham wants people to get involved in the BBC's Tree O'Clock scheme
If you want to do one thing for nature, have fun AND help set a world record then join us at Tree O'clock!
Here's how it works...
These Tree O'clock events will contribute to the "most trees planted in one hour in multiple locations" record and, in Derby, will attempt to plant 1,000 trees at Allestree Park and, at Shipley, and 1,500 trees in the country Park.
The Shipley Country Park event
This event needs volunteers with spades & suitable clothing and footwear. Meet in main Visitor Centre Car Park - Entrance off Slack Lane / Thorpe's Road. Includes hedge planting from Coppice Side area of the park towards Osborne's Pond.
If you'd like to volunteer, please arrive by 10.30, when volunteers will be briefed ready for the record attempt to start at 11.00.
The day will start at 10.00 with registration and time for tree-planting training. There'll be an opportunity to warm-up with some simple stretching exercises and advice about planting and handling tools.
It's hoped that 1,000 trees will be planted in Allestree Park
The record attempt itself starts at 11.00. You have plenty of time to plant your tree and add to the thousands being planted all over the country.
The date: Saturday, 5 December 2009
Meet at Woodlands Road car park from 10.00 to start planting at 11.00.
Please bring a spade or trowel and wear suitable footwear and clothing for working outdoors.
If you can't get along to Tree O'clock then you can still contribute to the world record by planting your own tree at home - as long as you do it between 11.00 and 12.00 on Saturday, 5 December.
You will need to take a photo as evidence of your planting and email it to BBC Breathing Places.
