Q&A

How did you get into radio?

Did a lot of hospital and student radio

Where was your first broadcast?

Hospital Radio Swindon

Where else have you worked?

BBC Radio Leeds and BBC Radio Devon

What other jobs have you done besides broadcasting?

Ordered bits for diesel engines and worked for a company that made artificial hip joints; filing not fettling!

How long have you worked at BBC Radio Cumbria and why do you like it?

Three years. We make proper radio for some of the nicest people, living in the best bit of England

Favourite broadcasting memory?

Co-hosting a live Murder Mystery show with Noel Edmonds

What would you be if you weren't a radio presenter?

"…would Sir like to go large with that?"

What would listeners be surprised to learn about you?

I can't play the piano, sing, finish the Times crossword, catch a ball or do the Rubik's Cube without peeling the stickers off.

What do you do when you're not broadcasting?

I'm also part of BBC Cumbria's management team, so I get to boss the others about a bit: Part warrant officer, part milk monitor!

Describe the programme you present:

The best bits of Cumbria's day, fried up into bubble & squeak for your teatime treat. Served with a dribble of sauce.
