Ian served onboard HMS Hermes in the Falklands conflict of 1982
Until recently, Ian had never taken much notice of the war graves in Carlisle Cemetery.
But in 2008, when getting ready to return to the Falkland Islands, he was struck "out of the blue", by the WWI graves and the information they held.
Looking at the graves, Ian is amazed by the age range of the men buried there, from boys of 19 to men of 51.
This he says shows just how involved people were in WWI, compared to the conflicts of recent years.
Standing looking at the graves marking the deaths of these WWI combatants, Ian thinks back to the Falklands conflict and his return there in 2007.
The ages on the war graves range from 19 to 51
"Last year I was down in the Islands, and just seeing the graves out there and the big memorial to those who were lost at sea, especially my friend Brian Marsden, it's just ..." says Ian shaking his head, unable to find the words to express his feelings.
"It ... brings back memories" he says and stands silent for a moment looking at the graves.
