Cumbria snow information

Malcolm Robinson and his snow plough

For the past seven years Malcolm Robinson and his three sons, Michael, Gary and Neil, have had the contract to clear snow and ice from some country roads near Sedbergh.

Their patch includes the precipitous winding lane up to Dent Station.

They navigate this by reversing the tractor and gritting trailer up a one-in-four hill round several hairpin bends.

Locals say their commitment is second to none.

Tony Playfoot, who lives in the remote hamlet of Cowgill at the top of Dentdale, says their road was frequently impassable in the winters before the Robinson's got the contract.

He said "They're up and down the valley at all hours of the day and night - one of them came through at four this morning."
