Plaque honours hero signalman

A memorial plaque has been unveiled in Cumbria to honour a railway signalman who prevented a potential disaster 25 years ago.

His name was Bill Taylor and his actions diverted a runaway goods train from crashing into Carlisle station.

The train could have hit the city's station and would have almost certainly killed the passengers waiting there.

Instead it crashed into the River Caldew without hurting anyone.
