Things to see and do this weekend

This weekend sees two big events take place in Cumbria - the 2009 Roger Albert Clark Rally and the Carlisle Blues Festival.

The rally over-nights in Carlisle on both Saturday and Sunday, with a final Champagne finish in the city centre on Monday.

The Blues Festival kicks off on Friday and brings in a line up of top Blues artists.

Apart from these, there are many other events around the county.

Erik Mongrain
Canadian guitar virtuoso Erik Mongrain has become a youtube phenomenon

Maryport Mayor's Concert takes place at the Wave Centre this evening starting at 7pm and will support charities including Breast Cancer Research, Prostate Cancer Research and The Great North Air Ambulance.

Erik Mongrain, a Canadian guitarist who has appeared on Later with Jools Holland, is appearing at the Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal at 7.30pm tonight.

The Christmas Show, an ehibition of alternative Christmas gifts by Cumbrian Artists opens at the Beacon, Whitehaven today and runs until 9th January.

Members of the Public are invited to try free mini trail sessions of complimentary therapies being held at the Westmorland Centre, Kendal from 10am until 4pm. A dozen therapists will be offering free sessions from acupuncture through to yoga therapy and will be on hand throughout the day answer health matters.

Paula Randall entertains with her Ladies of Rock Concert featuring music by Tina Turner and Cher. It takes place at the BlueBird Club, Barrow in Furness starting at 7.30pm. Tickets priced at £16 and £10 available from 01229 474165. Money raised is in aid of local charities.

Brantwood
Brantwood is set within 250 acres of woodland in the Lake District

The Annual Winter Craft Fair at Brantwood near Coniston takes place today. A wide range of quality crafts from around Cumbria will be on display throughout Brantwood House from 10.30am until 4pm. Admission costs £2, children free.

The Delicious Digital Soup Kitchen event being held at the Lanternhouse, Ulverston today from 1 until 4pm. If you are aged between 12 and 20 years old and interested in playing with some new technology and would like to learn how to make some cool digital animations then go along. No need to book, just turn up.

Millom Baptist Church is celebrating the 125th anniversary of the church building, there will be two services, one at 10:45am and one at 6pm with the guest speaker being Reverend Stuart Ibbotson of Altrincham.

A service for Road Peace begins at 9.30am in St. Aidan's Church, Middle Hill, Barrow-in-Furness. During the service candles will be lit and names written on oak leaves to remember those who have died or have been injured on the roads.
