A brief history of Movember
Movember although relatively new in the UK began in Melbourne, Australia in 2003 as a challenge to bring back the moustache.

Since then it has literally grown each year across the world, both in terms of number of people participating and the money they raise. In the first campaign only 30 male participants, known as 'Mo Bros' took part in Movember. However the event has grown in popularity since then, last year across the globe more than 173,000 'Mo Bro & Sistas' were involved, raising over 14 million pounds for male health charities. Since it began the Movember campaign has raised over 30 million pounds globally to help the fight against prostate cancer and depression in men. The event organisers say "as a direct result, male awareness of health issues has improved with Movember helping to spread health messages directly to millions of Mo Bros & Sistas around the world."
Become a BBC Mo-Bro or Mo-Sis
The event is not just for men, the organisers are encouraging women to join an support the campaign. They are asking for 'Mo Bro's and Mo Sistas' to get involved. Here are the events official rules: • Once registered each Mo Bro must start Sunday 1 November with a clean shaven face. • Then, for the entire month of Movember each Mo Bro must grow and groom a moustache according to these rules: • There is to be no joining the Mo to the side burns - that's a beard. There are no beards. • There is to be no joining of the handlebars on the chin - that's a goatee. • A small complimentary growth under the bottom lip, aka a 'tickler', is allowed.
