Thousands of pounds in grants are awarded each year in Cornwall

The BBC's massive fundraising night returns on Friday 20 November, and all over Cornwall events are being planned. Last year hundreds of thousands of pounds was raised in the South West through a variety of activities of all sizes. A lot of the money raised in Cornwall returns to the county, with many organisations benefitting. All the charities that receive grants from Pudsey must be linked to help children and young adults. So far in 2009 the following organisations have benefitted from a BBC Children in Need grant: YMCA Cornwall Penzance - £39,948 This project will provide youth club activities for young people between 8 and 18. Women's Aid West Cornwall Penzance - £83,250 The grant was provided to support for young people and parents who have experienced domestic abuse. Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change Redruth - £79,711 This Redruth based scheme will provide youth work activities on 20 housing estates in Cornwall on some evenings after school, on regular weekends and during school holidays.

Trelya Penzance - £116,335 This project will provide group and individual support to disadvantaged young people making the transition from school to adult life. In 2008 the following charities were among those to receive a grant in Cornwall: Carefree - Fostering Independence - Redruth £125,394 The staff on this scheme will continue to run and develop courses for young people providing skills for independent living and mentoring younger children who are looked after. Penhaligon's Friends - £42,231 The grant will offer pre and post bereavement support, through group and one to one activities, for children and young people aged 4 to 18 and their families in Cornwall. Cirque du Ciel Penzance - £16,226 This project will provide circus skills workshops in order to improve the communication, coordination, social skills, concentration, and self esteem of disadvantaged children in West Cornwall. Young People Cornwall Truro - £74,142 The organisation will establish a new youth centre to combat social exclusion and deprivation in this isolated rural area.
