New members are being sought for the popular choir

The Cornwall Boys' Choir is just two years old but it's already gaining an impressive reputation with audiences. Musical Director Angela Renshaw is hoping the group will become one of the premier choirs in the country. Now Angela is on the look out for new talent. She's holding open evenings to allow youngsters to sing with the choir. The choir brings together young male singers from across Cornwall from the age of seven to fourteen. As well directing the Cornwall Boys' Choir, Angela also co-directs the Cornwall Junior Choir and works with the Holman Climax Male Voice Choir. As Musical Director Angela hopes the choir will foster the boys love of singing and music, and challenge the stereo-types that 'boys don't sing' and 'it's not cool to sing'.
The choir appeared at BBC Radio Cornwall's Carol Concert in 2008

One of the highlights for the choir was opening the 2009 International Male Voice Chorale Festival in April 2009 alongside foreign guest boys' choirs. The choir rehearses at Truro School Prep's Assembly Hall on Tuesday evenings and on every fourth Saturday. Jamie is one of the choir members. He says: "It's a great chance to socialise. Half of the boys in the choir aren't at your school so now I have two groups of friends. We sing really fun songs and enjoy great activities too." One novel aspect to the choir is that when the choir meet to rehearse on Saturday afternoons, the hour-long rehearsal is followed by an hour of activities, organised by the parents, making use of Truro Prep's swimming pool, and facilities. So far the boys have had activities such as volleyball, badminton, and drama. It is hoped that in the future the boys will be given 'tasters' in judo, fencing, water polo and samba playing. Open evenings for future singers are being held on Tuesday 3 November from 5.15pm and 6.15pm at Truro School prep and on Thursday 5 November from 4.30pm - 5.30pm at Constantine Primary School.
