Two ten-year-olds from Camborne have become the youngest from their club to be selected to play judo for Great Britain.

Ryan Daughtery and Lorcan Williamson have been training at Carn Brea judo club.

The boys will travel to Dublin for their first competition on 7 November, and will not know their opponents until they get there.

Lorcan's ambition is to train hard to reach the 2016 Olympics.

Both competitors took part in a national squad selection day in Birmingham, where they competed against other people of the same weight and managed to win their place to represent Great Britain.

Yellow belt

Janet Williams, senior instructors at the Carn Brea judo club said: "We are all delighted with them, and it's wonderful to think we can produce such good judo players in Camborne."

Both boys are making history by being the youngest players to be selected from Carn Brea since it opened 35 years ago.

Janet says: "It's quite unique to have two youngsters selected from the same age group, at the same time."

Lorcan has a junior yellow belt with two orange tags, and is looking forward to the challenge: "I'm quite excited but also nervous. Eventually I'd like to go to the Olympics in 2016 - I'll have to do a lot of practice before then!"

Lorcan has been playing judo for five years and enjoys the martial art.

He said: "You feel really good about yourself when you succeed, and if you don't succeed it's good experience for the future."

Judo runs in the Williamson family as Lorcan's dad Alan explains: "I've reached black belt first dan, Lorcan has done really well and has worked very hard.

Ryan is currently in America entering an International Sports Festival explains Janet: "He's taken part in a huge event at the Disney Park which is televised. We've all got our fingers crossed that he'll do quite well."
