100,000th visitor to Banksy show
Queues for the exhibition
Queues for the exhibition form daily outside the museum

The 100,000th visitor to Bristol's Banksy exhibition passed through the doors of the museum at the weekend.

Since the art show opened three weeks ago, queues have snaked past the museum daily prior to its 10am opening and at lunchtimes - with some waiting an hour.

Visitors to the Edwardian museum and art gallery have increased five-fold to almost 5,000 a day.

The critically-acclaimed Banksy vs Bristol Museum show features more than 100 works by the elusive artist.

The museum, which is used to hosting major exhibitions, has never seen anything like it before.

This is the first time any exhibition hosted at the museum in its 100-year history has attracted visitors in these numbers in such a short space of time.

If numbers remain this high, the total could reach more than 350,000 - three times the original estimate.

The lucky 100,000th visitor was presented with copy of Banksy's book Wall and Piece on Saturday morning

Banksy vs Bristol Museum is on at the City Museum and Art Gallery until 31 August 2009.

It is open seven days a week and entry is free.
