The layout of the Ashton Court arena has changed for 2009
Changes are afoot for the 2009 Bristol International Balloon Fiesta with a revamped layout at Ashton Court. The event, now in its 31st year, will feature the usual diet of mass ascents, special shapes and night glows. The arena, though, will see the biggest change with the public now able to walk around it full-circle. The Red Arrows will also appear for a second year running - the aerobatic display will take place on Saturday, 8 August 2009. The Balloon Fiesta's event director, Susan Tanner, said she is "delighted" at the coup. "Last year's display was staggering and this year's promises to be better than ever," she said. The fiesta has not attracted a headline sponsor this year but has taken an innovative approach to securing funding. Organisers have launched the 100 Club whereby 100 businesses have each pledged £2,000 to take part in a raffle. The winner will be named as title sponsor while second and third place will win sponsorship for one of the two night glows. This year's Balloon Fiesta will take place from Thursday, 6 to Sunday, 9 August 2009.
