Clifton Cathedral (pictured here inside) will be holding the special mass in June

Clifton Cathedral is holding a special event this summer to celebrate the conclusion of the Year For Priests.

The "spiritual year" will end with the Feast of the Sacred Heart, which will take place on Friday, 11 June 2010.

The celebratory mass will begin at 11am at Clifton Cathedral and will be led by Bishop Declan.

Father Christopher Whitehead has written to all priests from the diocese inviting them to join Bishop Declan in this mass of celebration.

He hopes priests will "extend the invitation" to their parish communities so that priests and people can "gather in our cathedral to celebrate Christ's presence among us in the gift of priesthood".

Father Christopher said: "The cathedral provides a wonderful focus for many a diocesan event and celebration.

"The mass is not simply for priests but a chance for our diocese to come together, gathered around our Bishop, to celebrate all that this year has called us to reflect upon."

During the weeks leading up to the special mass in the cathedral, you will be able to find out more information on the Clifton Diocese website.

Father Christopher added: "I hope many people from around the four counties of our diocese will take time to travel to our cathedral for this special day of celebration."
