Bristol celebrates inter-faith
Cross and bible
The aim is to bring awareness of the diverse faiths in Bristol to the public

People from various religions across Bristol are getting together in November at an event to celebrate the first inter-faith week.

The Bristol Multi Faith Forum, supported by Bristol City Council, is putting on a Diverse Doors Open Day on Sunday, 15 November, 2009.

This year, participating faiths include Christian denominations, Jews, Hindus, different Muslims sects and Sikhs.

Some 17 different places of worship will be open to the public.

Visitors will be offered a personal guided tour of participating places of worship and can learn more about these faiths.

There will also be the chance to join the Sikh community at a traditional langar meal at the Siri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara in St George.

In visits to mosques and gurdwaras, the Bristol Multi Faith Forum advises that both men and women cover up from the neck to the ankles.

A head covering for women is conventional - men will be provided with a skullcap to wear while inside a synagogue.

You can get more information from the Bristol Multi Faith Forum on 07832 377745, or email info@bmff.info
