A top television director is in Bath today to collect an honorary degree from Bath Spa University.

Tristram Shapeero has directed many successful programmes, including Absolutely Fabulous, Peep Show, Brass Eye, I'm Alan Partridge and Green Wing.

He and leading film producer, Simon Relph, will be among four people receiving the DLitt (Doctor of Letters) award at the university's graduation ceremonies at the end of July.

Tristram Shapeero, who was born in Somerset and grew up in Bath, has been directing comedies for the last 20 years.

In July 2009, Tristram moved to California to direct comedy for American television.

Simon Relph, an independent film producer since 1981, has served as chairman of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and is on the board of South West Screen and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre.

A total of about 2,800 students will gain degrees and diplomas at Bath Spa University's graduation ceremonies on Friday, 23 and Saturday, 24 July at the University's Newton Park campus.
