Charity inundated with stray cats
Cat
Bristol's RSPCA has seen an increase in the number of cats being handed in

Bristol Cats and Dogs Home has issued an urgent rehoming request after being inundated with cats.

The local animal rescue centre is struggling to find new homes for nearly 70 furry felines and its cattery is currently full to bursting point.

Manager Lynn Gilman said: "Usually, at this time of year we see a decrease in the number of cats being admitted but this doesn't seem to be happening."

It costs the charity £4,000 a day to run the centre.

Lynn added: "We are seeing many more "late" litters of kittens. This used to be much more seasonal but it would seem that our changing weather patterns may have a lot to answer for."

Fundraising event

In order to raise vital funds, Bristol Dogs and Cats Home is preparing for its annual Christmas Fair which is due to take place on 21 November.

Fundraising manager Jill Roynon said: "The festive spirit will be flowing at the event. With carols around the Christmas tree, stalls, games and Santa popping by to take a break in his grotto."

The RSPCA's Bristol Branch is made up of the RSPCA Bristol Animal Clinic and Bristol Dogs and Cats Home.

Bristol Dogs and Cats Home provides care, shelter and a re-homing service for nearly 2,000 unwanted dogs, cats and small animals every year.

If you can offer a cat a home, either visit the centre in St Philips or call 0117 9776043. The centre is open Monday to Friday 10am-12pm and 1-4.30pm. Saturday 9.30am-12pm and closed on Sundays.
