Students climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to help raise funds
A student from Sudan has been given the opportunity to study in Bristol thanks to a scholarship aimed at people from war-torn parts of Africa. Severio Sebit is now studying a Msc in economics finance and management at the University of Bristol. The scholarship for Severio, who is married with a daughter, was organised by the Windle Trust. "If you get a good grade like a first-class degree or a second-class upper then you apply to the UK universities," Severio said. A combination of the trust and students from the university have funded Serverio's time in the city. Some students even raised money to help pay for his living expenses and accommodation by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Student Emma Presley was one of the 20 who climbed to the top of the mountain saying the "incomparable" experience made her "cry". "You have to spend an entire year fundraising just to get there," she added. "And then you have to climb it. A lot of hard work and tears have gone into getting to the top." Serverio, who has never left Africa before, said the UK's weather has surprised him. "It's a bit harsh," he told BBC Bristol. "This is my first time outside Africa, outside my country, it's really hot there."
