Gwen retires after 21 years in the job at Mangotsfield School
An 81-year-old dinner lady from Mangotsfield is to retire after 21 years at a South Gloucestershire school.
Gwen Fussell, who joined Mangotsfield School in 1988, will serve her last dinner to children on Friday.
She is currently the oldest "midday supervisor" employed by South Gloucestershire Council.
Gwen told BBC Bristol that although she has been in the job "a long time" she has "enjoyed every minute of it".
"I think it's the love of the children. I just love children, and I get on very well with them.''
''Its been a lifeline for me really, because I would have been at home by myself," she told BBC Bristol.
Deputy Head Andrew Wait said: ''She's just given so much to our students over those 21 years. She'll be missed an awful lot. She's a bit of an institution really."
One of the pupils at Mangotsfield school, Chris Williams, said "It's quite sad really, because she's been a permanent fixture in most people's school life. She's like everyone's nan."
Another pupil, Sam Douglas, added: "She's an inspiration, and a big part of our school. It'll be sad to see her go. She's so loveable. Always smiling!"
Gwen is now "looking forward" to retirement and spending time with her nine grandchildren.
