The Young Ones rob a bank in Bristol
The Young Ones was filmed around Bristol in the 1980s

The Young Ones was one of the BBC's classic 1980s comedies about a group of students attending Scumbag College - but plenty of the exterior filming was done right here in Bristol.

The series, starring Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondson, Nigel Planer and Christoper Ryan, ran from 1982 until 1985 for 26 episodes.

The series also launched the career of Ben Elton as a writer and featured appearances by actors such as Stephen Fry and Dawn French.

Westbury Park Tavern

The show even spawned a number one single - Living Doll - for Comic Relief.

Our walk around the film locations starts at Westbury Park and the Tavern. It featured in the episode Boring as the Kebab and Calculator.

From here, walk down Linden Road toward Coldharbour Lane where you will find our second filming spot.

The zebra crossing also featured in Boring as the gang marched to the Kebab and Calculator.

Back to Linden Road keep walking down the hill to Cranbrook Road. Take a left at Clare Avenue and then a right down Berkeley Road as far as Broadway.

The Young Ones house
The Young Ones home is on Codrington Road in Bristol
Here, go right and walk to Codrington Road where you will find one of The Young Ones most important locations - the student house.

The house itself is on the corner of Codrington Road and Broadway on the left-hand side. The house itself featured in many episodes of the comedy.

Also along Broadway is a lock-up garage which the gang walked past in Cash and the road itself was used in Bambi when Neil ran back to the house to inform the others they were all to appear on University Challenge.

Walk back along Broadway to Berkeley Road and down the hill to Gloucester Road and turn right. There's plenty to see from the series here!

First is the old Gloucester Road swimming baths: This was used a couple of times, including in the final episode.

Gloucester Road laundrette
Insert 50p! The laundrette that featured in the comedy
It originally featured in Cash as the police station and later in Summer Holiday as the bank that the gang held-up with water pistols.

Also along Gloucester Road is the laundrette where the four try and wash their clothes only to be foiled by an unwillingness to pay 50p for the service.

The RSPCA shop also features in the series - as an army careers office.

You can get back to the starting point by walking along Shadwell Road, Hazelton Road, right onto Logan Road, left to Clare Avenue then right along Cranbrook Road and Linden Road.

The whole walk is less than three miles, please be aware that it is quite hilly in places.
