A new nature website will offer teachers new learning resources, activity ideas and advice.

Avon Wildlife Trust hopes their Wild Schools website will bring a "fresh feel" to lessons.

Project director Steve Micklewright said it aims to help children in urban areas learn about wildlife.

"There's a growing awareness that close contact with nature is good for children and that modern life doesn't always make this possible."

He added: "Most teachers know this, and many tell us they are keen to respond but worry that their nature knowledge is rusty or hazy or that they don't have the time to prepare suitable materials."

The range of material on the website includes advice on making playgrounds friendly to wildlife to making an outdoor classroom.

The resources run from foundation through Key Stages one and two up to A-Level.
