A Bath Spa University student will have her work showcased on the catwalk at London Fashion Week later this month.

Emily Booker is one of 15 finalists in a competition run by the charity Fashion Awareness Direct highlighting designs by promising undergraduates.

The third year BA Fashion Design student entered two outfits on the theme of "escape".

Her garments will be modelled at a London Fashion Week show, with final judging taking place on 22 February.

The winning designer receives £2,000 and a work placement.

Inuit-inspired

Emily said she was inspired by traditional Inuit clothing, which she associates with warmth, comfort and protection from the pressures of daily life.

"This is an amazing opportunity to showcase my ideas as a designer and to represent Bath Spa University, which has given me the skills to make those ideas a reality," she said.

Louise Pickles, fashion course leader at the university, said: "It is a tremendous accolade that Emily has got through to the final of this prestigious event, which will give her well-deserved exposure to the fashion industry, as well as the national fashion press.

"There is an incredible amount of work involved in developing designs for the catwalk, especially at a time when students are also preparing their degree work.

"Emily has been incredibly hard working and professional in the way that she has managed her studies alongside developing this collection."
