Bristol graffiti artist Banksy has donated a painting to raise funds for an artist who lost his home in a fire.

He has joined the Rooftop Burner Fund to aid friend Rowdy, who lost everything when his house, including his studio, recently burnt down.

Rowdy is known as "one of the longest- standing players in UK graffiti".

Banksy is part of a group of artists who have donated work to the fund and all the proceeds will be going directly to Rowdy, minus any seller's fees.

The sale is taking place on the internet auction site eBay.

The idea came from Jono Boyle and Luc Price, two artists and friends of Rowdy.

They are also directors of Steal From Work, a not-for-profit worker's co-operative formed to put on art exhibitions in Bristol.

Jono told the BBC Bristol website: "We wanted to come together to help a friend.

"Over the past few years the graffiti/street art scene has really grabbed hold of the general public.

"We thought it would be a nice change to use that potential to help someone who has been involved from the start in helping make graffiti what it is today.

"We asked a few people that paint with Rowdy, and knew him back in the day, to help and everyone just stepped up and dug deep.

"We simply hope to get Rowdy back on his feet."

True vision

Steal From Work added: "He [Rowdy] has painted with the best of them, in fact is one of the best of them, always sticking true to his vision, rocking his own style, never selling-out his ideas."

All the work on sale has been personally donated to the fund by the artists and the galleries that represent them.

Some of the artists that are taking part alongside Banksy, include Paul Insect, Swoon, Sickboy, Hush, Espo and the Burning Candy crew.

The online auction will start on Thursday, 17 June and the first items will end on Sunday, 27 June.

Steal From Work will stagger the items over the 10 days, so that they don't all end at the same time.

Bids will only be accepted via eBay.
