Bristol half-marathon (Graham Bloomfield)

Tens of thousands of athletes took to Bristol's streets on Sunday to tackle the 13 mile half-marathon - which was won by Edwin Kipyego (pictured in the yellow top).

Rainy conditions met the runners on Sunday who covered a route which took in some of the city centre streets and the gruelling Portway.

They also ran over Bristol Bridge where they could take in views of the harbourside.

But the race did suffer a few problems with some athletes losing out on official race times because their timing chip came off in the wet conditions.

Organisers will now check video pictures taken at the start and end and give those affected their race times as soon as possible.

Race organisers said 16,400 people signed up for the race, but 11,166 had started it.

The elite race was won by Edwin Kipyego in a time of 1:03:08. Shiferaw Tewodros came second and Andy Vernon was third.

Claire Hallissey won the women's race in a time of 1:12:02. Tanith Maxwell was second and Becky Penty came third.
