A Bradford based theatre company is to celebrate the city's past as it prepares to reopen a former mill as a theatre space.

Freedom Studios are to host a mill workers' reunion this month.

The aim is to hear some of the stories of the times and reveal plans for a new production based in one of the mills.

Artistic Director Madani Younis said: "We are excited about telling the story of a city moulded and shaped by its rich history and diverse communities."

Freedom Studios will unveil plans for their next theatre production, The Mill: City of Dreams, which will be performed at Drummonds Mill in March and April 2011.

They will also be recreating the famous Belle Vue Studios, one of Bradford's best known photographic studios, and visitors will be able to hear some of the stories that have been uncovered over the past few months.

Photographs will be on display showing the fascinating past life of the mills.

Madani Younis said: "The role of the textile industry and the impact it had on people's lives in Bradford is a compelling story.

"We are excited about reopening Drummonds Mill as a performance space."

Share ideas

The textile mills in Bradford and the people who inhabited them on a daily basis are the inspiration for the theatre production.

It is intended that the reunion will provide an opportunity to share ideas and experiences.

Drummonds Mill, constructed by James Drummond, was built on a ten-acre site on Lumb Lane in 1856.

At its peak, the mill was one of the pioneers of the worsted coating trade in Bradford.

When the mill closed its doors in December 2002 only 104 people were working there and it has remained empty ever since.

Freedom Studios are appealing for former workers of Bradford's textile mills to come along to the reunion to share their stories.

The Drummonds Mill Reunion is on Sunday 20th February from 2pm to 4pm and will taken place at the Ukrainian Club on Legrams Lane, Bradford.
