Joan Armatrading has become the latest celebrity to be honoured on Birmingham's Walk of Stars.

The singer-songwriter said it felt "fantastic" to be getting the award.

Other local celebrities on the Broad Street Walk of Stars include Julie Walters, Jasper Carrott, Lenny Henry and Beverley Knight.

Joan received her Star during her concert in Symphony Hall on Saturday, 1 May 2010 in front of hundreds of people.

Another award

Three times Grammy nominated Joan Armatrading moved to Birmingham when she was seven.

She has received numerous gold, platinum and silver discs and is the winner of an Ivor Novello award.

In 2001, Joan was awarded an MBE.

Joan said she felt "very honoured" to be given a star on Broad Street.

"The people of Birmingham are fantastic, what better place to be awarded a star than your home town. Thank you for thinking of me."

Allan Sartori, Marketing Director of Broad Street Business Improvement District said: "We are delighted to welcome Joan and honour her on the Walk of Stars.

"She's a fantastic musical talent who deserves a place amongst the other Midland greats that run along our Golden Mile".
