Insects swarm in garden

Jane France had a swarm of insects in her garden - but what were they?

Jane said: "I was sitting in my lounge reading the newspaper when I heard a noise that sounded like a load of mopeds! I looked up through my patio doors (which were closed) and there were thousands of wasps or bees.

"It was like something from a horror film! Everywhere I looked there were bees or wasps zooming around really fast!

"I couldn't walk out through the doors or I would have walked straight into a wall of of them. My garden was full of them.

"They gradually started to go back into the trees but it took about 15 minutes. I've never seen anything like it before.

"I tried to get a close up picture of one that had landed somewhere but they wouldn't rest anywhere they just kept whizzing around.

"My garden backs onto some allotments so my only thought was if a gardener had disturbed a nest and they'd all shot out of there, as they seemed to start off coming from that direction over the top of the trees and into my garden

"It was like something from a Hitchcock film!"
