Clare Catford won a silver in the Faith Programming category

Congratulations to BBC Radio Berkshire for winning silver and bronze in the Frank Gillard awards ceremony on Thursday 8 October 2009. The faith programme scored a silver at the annual BBC local radio awards bash. The station also won bronze in the sport category for its coverage of the Henley Olympic rowers' home-coming celebrations in 2008. Frank Gillard was a distinguished BBC war correspondent and was the driving force behind creating BBC local radio. The faith programme, which broadcasts on Sundays from 6am, is produced by Katie Williams and presented by Clare Catford. Clare said: "I wore the frock, had my nails done, and we got a silver which I'm really thrilled with. "But it's all about the stories that you tell us and how faith mixed in with all of that, so without the listener there would be no award." The station's live outside broadcast of the Olympic rowers' jubilant open-top bus tour in October 2008 was produced by Julia Wootton and Graham McKechnie. It was co-presented by Tim Dellor and Andrew Peach. Andrew said: "There are some community moments which are really special and we like to be part of as a radio station. "Everyone was excited by the rowing success we had in Beijing and it enabled us to tell a bit of the history of our area." The 2009 annual award ceremony for BBC local radio stations was held in Nottingham. Categories include Original Journalism, Breaking News, Community and Station Of The Year.
