Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby beat Martin Scorsese's The Aviator to the top awards at the Oscars on Sunday.
This report from James Coomarasamy:
In the battle of the Hollywood veterans, the undoubted winner was Clint Eastwood. His "Million Dollar Baby" was voted best film by the Academy while he also won the coveted Oscar for Best Director for the second time. The film won four Oscars in total with Hilary Swank picking up Best Actress for her portrayal of a female boxer and Morgan Freeman named Best Supporting Actor.
So Martin Scorsese missed out on the Best Director award for the fifth time, although his film "The Aviator" did win five Oscars including Best Supporting Actress for Kate Blanchett.
The hottest favourite of the night, Jamie Foxx, duly won Best Actor for his portrayal of Ray Charles, but it was Clint Eastwood's night and one that he shared with his ninety-six year old mother who was sitting with him in the audience.
