Palestinian officials are heading to Paris to find out about the condition of their leader, Yasser Arafat, who is in hospital there. They had initially cancelled their trip following angry comments made by Yasser Arafat's wife, Suha.
This report from James Reynolds:
After a morning of arguments and delays Palestinian leaders have finally made up their minds. They're going to Paris to find out exactly what is going on. They had initially postponed their trip following angry comments made by Yasser Arafat's wife, Suha.
She'd accused Mahmoud Abbas, Ahmed Qureia and others of conspiring against her husband and of wanting to bury him while he was still alive and it appears that she is barring them and others from seeing Mr. Arafat.
So, officials here say that they're going to Paris to ask their French counterparts for information about their leader's condition. Many here in Ramallah have criticised Mrs Arafat's intervention. One Palestinian official has called hers a hysterical reaction, saying that in his words she is not a serious person.
