Yemen reports breakthrough on warship attack
The president of Yemen, Ali Abdullah Saleh, has reported progess in the investigation into the bombing of an American warship in Yemen last week. Seventeen sailors died in the attack, and the two bombers are also presumed dead. Speaking on Arab satellite television, Mr Saleh said police knew where in Yemen the small craft was built which rammed the American ship. He said they'd found the house where the bombers lived in Aden, and knew that they were Arabs because they'd been seen performing Muslim prayers before the attack. He said the explosive could only be found in the United States, Israel and in two Arab countries which he declined to name. Speaking at a memorial service for the dead, President Clinton said no effort would be spared to find the bombers. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
