In pictures: Barcelona protests
Demonstrators took to the streets of Barcelona on Saturday to protest their causes outside the EU summit. But what started out as a carnival of protest ended in injury.
A day of carnival-style protest ended in blood being spilled yet again
Anti-globalisation marchers had brought a mardi gras feel to the protests
At first, the devilry seemed to go no further than the plastic horns on some marchers
It was not all about globalisation, as these Basque separatists made clear
For some of the marchers, anti-capitalism meant physically smashing up banks
Riot police were out in force and quickly moved in when trouble appeared to arise
Some demonstrators or bystanders took shelter, perhaps ironically, inside the cash-point halls of banks
Even football could not escape the day of action as a Basque protester invaded the pitch
