Four killed in Aceh violence
The military and aid workers in the Indonesian province of Aceh say at least four people have been killed in the latest violence there. An army spokesman said a special forces lieutenant was killed by shrapnel when rebels of the Free Aceh Movement ambushed soldiers in Bireuen district. He said a civilian also died. In Banda Aceh, the body of an unidentified man was reported to have been found with gunshot wounds. Another man missing from his home in East Aceh since last week was reportedly found dead in neighbouring North Sumatra province. Aceh rebels have been fighting since 1976 for an independent Islamic state in their part of Indonesia. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
