Three days after the world witnessed perhaps the worst terrorist atrocity in history - against the World Trade Center in New York - US President George W Bush visited the scene of the attack.

President Bush was greeted by New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and Governor George Pataki

He was shown some of the devastation from the attacks on Tuesday when two airliners crashed into the twin towers of WTC

He had a stirring message for the hundreds of rescue workers who have been sifting through the wreckage

He was standing on a burnt-out fire truck that has become a shrine for the firefighters' lost comrades

The rescue workers mobbed Mr Bush, as chants of "USA, USA" went up over the crowd
