What makes a person risk their life for adventure? Richard Branson's attempt to fly around the world in a balloon has failed - again. On this occasion neither he nor his colleagues were hurt.

Recent days have seen 3 people die when they attempted to sky-dive over the North Pole.

The British yachtsman Tony Bullimore survived for four days after capsizing his yacht as he attempted to sail on his own around the world. A massive operation was launched to rescue him.

Every winter, mountain rescue teams on put on alert as climbers get into difficulties on the snow capped mountains of Scotland and Wales. Yet people seem to thrive on the adrenalin rush.
