Talking Point

Do animals have rights?

Talking Point joins this week with BBC World Service Radio's Europewide to discuss whether animals have rights

To listen to both sides of the debate click here

In Britain a man campaigning for animal rights has just ended a long hunger strike; in Belgium there've been further arrests of suspects in arson attacks on MacDonald's fast food shops; in Italy the Animal Liberation Front say it poisoned the traditional Italian Christmas cake - The Panettone - made by a subsidiary of the food giant Nestle.

Animal rights activism increases around Europe and looks set to be the new terrorism for the new millennium.

Yet most of us will sit down to a Christmas meal next week, where centre-stage will be a roast turkey or other meat dish.

Meanwhile the habitats of ever more creatures are sacrificed as more of Europe is concreted over, so we can drive to work and live in new homes.

What do you think?
