Talking Point

Could a total ban on drinking and driving ever work in Europe?

This week's Talking Point debate in conjuction with Europewide at the BBC World Service.

Back to the Europewide homepage

Every year thousands of Europeans are killed because of drunken driving.

Among the most recent victims were four members of one Belgian family, killed in an horrific incident which prompted renewed calls in Belgium for tougher restrictions on alcohol.

Drink-drive limits vary widely across Europe. Is it now time to work towards a total alcohol ban?

Yes, says Dave Rogers of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents here in Britain; we brought him together with the French journalist Catherine Guilyardi for this week's Europewide debate.
