"This is Donald Dewar’s seat at Westminster - and likely to remain so for Edinburgh. Anniesland is situated on the north western outskirts of the city. The seat has its own smart villa suburb in Kelvinside and is home to the prestigious private school, the High School of Glasgow. But it is typified more by its inter- and post-war council estates. Some like Drumchapel are areas of multiple social and economic deprivation. Others are established working class enclaves. Part of Yarrow shipyard is found in the constituency but Anniesland is by no means an industrial seat. It is overwhelmingly working-class however, and for that reason alone will continue to elect Labour MPs just as its predecessor seat of Glasgow Garscadden did.
