 Description
"All of the town of Falkirk now lies within the boundaries of this West constituency, following the most recent boundary changes in which one ward was exchanged for two from East. Falkirk is in the Central region of Scotland, about equidistant between Glasgow and Edinburgh, throwing off reliance upon agriculture in the eighteenth century when it became an iron-founding town. Today the iron industry is no more, but the seat is still home to industrial towns and villages involved in heavy vehicle assembly, distilling and new light industries. The area is of historical interest with parts of the Antonine Wall to be found at Bonnybridge, whilst Falkirk was the scene of one of the less glorious battles in Scottish history - one at which William Wallace lost to Edward I in 1298.
