"West is perhaps the most solidly middle-class seat in what is essentially a very middle-class city. There are few poor areas in the constituency, and it is typified by places like the posh old village of Cramond and Dalmeny - the seat of the earls of Rosebery. The affluent village of Corstorphine will be well known to anyone who has ever sat in traffic jams on the way in or out of Edinburgh. However, boundary changes in 1997 brought more working class areas such as Moat and Stenhouse into the seat along with the Muirhouse housing scheme. Notable landmarks in West include the southern ends of the Forth road and rail bridges and Edinburgh's Turnhouse airport.
