This constituency encompasses a large section of central London - including the area around parliament and the City, but also the West End, Knightsbridge and Hyde Park.
Many of London’s most famous and prominent landmarks fall within this seat - St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, Downing Street and Harrods.
One might assume that a constituency which is home to some of London’s most popular tourist attractions as well as the main shopping areas would not have that large a population. In fact there are 69,000 resident voters.
Peter Brooke has represented this seat since 1977. In 1997 he won with a majority of almost 5,000 votes but is retiring at this election.
