This seat covers a coastal strip of West Sussex which stretches from the retirement and resort lands of Pagham to Aldwick and to Bognor itself through to Felpham and Middleton-on-Sea. The eastern half focussed around Littlehampton is more industrial.
Arun District Council from which this seat draws all of its wards is dominated by the Conservatives. There are a few areas such as Bognor Regis Pevensey, and the Littlehampton wards of Ham, River and Wick with Labour councillors.
The need to meet large housing targets for the south-east is a major issue in this constituency as it is in most of Sussex. Under government plans, an extra 9,000 homes will be build in Adur District Authority over the next 10 years.
The redevelopment of Littlehampton Harbour is another key local issue, with many people complaining about the density and type of houses and shops planned for the empty wharfs. A West Sussex Coastal Project received £6.9 million from the Single Regeneration Budget in August 2000.
