Where are they now? - Labour's 1997 cabinet
The Cabinet of 1997
Ron Davies
Ron Davies
Welsh Secretary (1997-98)

Ron Davies was the first member of Tony Blair's cabinet to resign after his infamous "moment of madness" on London's Clapham Common.

He quit as secretary of state for Wales in October 1998. With his political career in tatters he also resigned as Labour's candidate to become the leader of the Welsh Assembly.

Prior to his shock resignation Davies looked like a shoo-in to head Wales' new devolved government after piloting the measures through parliament as well as helping to pull-off a 'Yes' vote in the devolution referendum.

He is stepping down from Parliament at this election, although he keeps his seat as a member of the Welsh Assembly.
