William Graham was made the Tories' Business Manager in the Assembly, in the reshuffle carried out by Nick Bourne when he took over the leadership of the group. He was formerly deputy business manager. He was one of those who called on Richards to step down. He also chairs the Assembly committee on Pre-16 Education, Schools and Early Learning, as well as serving on the European Affairs Committee.

He stood in Newport West and came second to Rosemary Butler, whom he now monitors as the Pre-16 Education Secretary. However he won a top-up seat as no.2 on the Tory list for South Wales East.

A chartered surveyor, who has a family practice in Newport , and a Justice of the Peace.

A former leader of the Conservative Group in Newport, Mr Graham has experience as a councillor both with Newport Borough Council and Gwent City Council.

He is a member of numerous public and voluntary bodies, including ones concerned with Listed Buildings, the appointment of JPs, rent assessment and the Harbour Commission. Other interests are the Rotary and charitable fundraising. In the Register he declares, as well as his surveying business, that he is Deputy Chairman of Rougemont School Trust, and Director of the United Reformed Church (Province of Wales).

He also declares 5 commercial properties in Newport. He omitted to declare the 801 a month he receives as a Borough Councillor, and swiftly put the record straight.

One of the few bearded AMs.
