Owen John Thomas sits on three Assembly committees: on Legislation, Pre-16 Education, Schools and Early Learning, and Local Government and Environment.
He stood in Cardiff Central and was third to Jenny Randerson (Lib Dem). But as
number-two on Plaid’s list for South Wales Central, he won a “top-up” seat.
He is a former deputy Head Teacher, and Chairman of Cardiff region of UCAC (the Welsh-language teachers’ union).
Mr Thomas is also currently chairman of Cardiff District of Plaid Cymru, and has extensive experience of local government. He recently accused Cardiff’s Lord Mayor of “arrogance”.
He has been a party agent, a party commissioner and has interests in Citizens Advice Bureau and Cardiff history. He has said “I have never, never used the word Independence”. In 1998 he wrote several letters to the press about the appropriate building for the new National Assembly. He favoured the City Hall.
