David Rhys Lloyd is in the Plaid Cymru cabinet as spokesman on Health and Social Services, and serves on the Assembly committee on the subject, as well as on the Legislation committee.

He is a practising GP, and is Plaid Cymru's second list seat AM for South Wales West. He is a member of the BMA, on the Welsh Council of the Royal College of GPs, and member of the Alzheimer’s Disease Society. Since 1993 he has been a member of the Welsh Medicines Steering Committee. He has been the S4C media doctor for the “Heno” nightly TV magazine.

Born in 1956, he was also elected as a county councillor in Swansea. Mr Lloyd contested the seat of Swansea West at the 1992 and 1997 General Elections.

A Welsh speaker, he has been Plaid Cymru's spokesman on health issues for five years. He is likely to play an active part for Plaid on issues such as health and education. He has spoken out strongly on compensation for miners, many of whom he has treated. He is a lay preacher.
