France
For much of their qualifying campaign, France performed like anything but world champions and eventually needed a 3-2 win against Iceland to avoid contesting a play-off. But they seem to have turned the corner with new coach Robert Lemerre at last finding his feet and his voice.
Recent European Championship record:
Euro 96: semi-final
Euro 92: group stage
Euro 88: did not qualify
