England
Fortunate to qualify for the finals, England have been granted few favours with Germany, Romania and Portugal as their group rivals. But having flirted with elimination with Poland failing to secure the point they needed against Sweden and squeezing through a scrappy play-off against Scotland, England can at least dream of repeating their position of semi-finalists four years ago. It is likely to remain a dream.
Recent European Championship record:
Euro 96: semi-final
Euro 92: group stage
Euro 88: group stage
