De Kuip, or ‘The Tub’ as it is more affectionately known, should provide an impressive and inspirational venue for the Euro2000 final.
The 51,000-seater stadium has undergone a major overhaul in recent years but retains a fervent atmosphere.
Home to giants Feyenoord, it has also hosted numerous Dutch international matches and European finals.
The stadium will bring back mixed memories for English fans... Aston Villa collected the European Cup here in 1982 and Manchester United won the Cup Winners Cup here in 1991.
But England’s qualifying campaign for the 1994 World Cup also ended at Die Kuip.
The stadium was opened in 1937 and by the end of the 1980s it was falling to pieces, but Rotterdam city council stepped in to bring it back to life.
It now seats all of its fans and newly constructed roofing provides cover for 80% of them.
The impressive Maastribune building has also been built and contains changing rooms, restaurants, a hotel and a plush reception area.
The stadium may have changed but the surrounding area remains devoted to football, its rundown bars embellished with pictures of Feyenoord stars past and present.
