KATE ADIE Tiananmen Square, Beijing: 4 June 1989 In the summer of 1989 the Chinese government lost patience with a long running student demonstration in Beijing’s central Tiananmen Square. The army was ordered in to disperse the demonstrators. BBC War correspondent Kate Adie was there, witnessed the pandemonium and describes how she fought for the videotape - her only record of those chilling events. |
