In London Queen Elizabeth II officially opened the Millennium Dome in Greenwich followed by a spectacular ceremony of music and dance. Along the River Thames, a massive firework display filled the sky with spectacular light and the smell of sulphur. The much-hyped “river of fire” however failed to live up to expectations. The Millennium Eye, London’s giant ferris wheel also disappointed its first guests as a failed safety test meant it was barred from carrying any passengers, but the official opening ceremony went ahead nonetheless.>>UK Parties into 21st century
